Did Smithy actually write a poem?

Well... kinda.

See, it's always been difficult for me to freestyle when it comes to anything non-prose. But if you give me a ready-made melody or structure, I can add my own words to it no problem. And that's what I did here. I've had a lot running through my mind in recent days, so I figured I'd put it down in writing. This one's to the tune of "Sister Golden Hair" by America (though I took some liberties in the structure).

Well, I don't know how it happened,
I don't know where to begin:
When the heart in me was blackened,
Or when I discovered you again?
But something's changed my chosen outlook;
Something's changed my point of view.
For better or for worse, I know it's true.
Now will you meet me in the middle?
Will you meet me in the end?
Could this actually lead to something,
Or is it in my head again?
Is it worth taking my chances,
When it all comes down to you?
Someone tell me what it is I'm s'posed to do...

Though you barely even know me,
We've always been the best of friends.
Yet now I'm begging you to show me
Another breach in that defense.
It's an awkward place to be in,
When your world's turned upside-down.
To right this ship, I have to ask you now:
Will you meet me in the middle?
Will you see me in the end?
What will it take to show you
What I see coming 'round the bend?
I don't know where this will take me,
So I swear my solemn vow,
As the curtains rise and I take my final bow...

I might be a fool for trying,
For even daring to believe.
But there's a part of me that's dying;
Another struggling to break free.
I know I should just take this feeling,
Bury it under lock and key,
But the road less traveled's calling out to me...
So will you meet me in the middle?
Will you need me in the end?
When your life's been torn asunder,
And you're desperate for a friend?
While I swear that I'll revive you,
I can't swear I'll set you free.
'Cause if I did, what would become of me?

Will you meet me in the middle?
Will you meet me in the end?
Will I have the strength to say it?
Will you even hear me then?
Would it be worth all the turmoil?
Could I look myself in the eye?
But the biggest question is, should I even try?

The biggest question is, should I even try?

First off, hell yeahz Sister Golden Hair and America.

I Youtube'd the song so I could listen to it while I read and you did a really good job on this. I'm not much for poetry, but I love song lyrics so that definitely helped me get into it. Most of the time I try to put a poem to a song anyway, so that definitely helped xD It's certainly interesting. I feel as though you still captured the essence of the original intent of the song. So well, in fact, that I might actually have preferred to hear this version of it. I think it'd be pretty cool if you could find someone to sing this.

thumbs up

I would love to sing it myself or find someone to sing it, that'd be awesome. The problem really doesn't stem from finding someone to sing it, it stems from the fact that I changed the structure (notably, I extended the chorus), so it would require a custom instrumental track to accompany it.

It could be as easy as going to your music building/hall/whatever at your school. I'm sure you could find at least one or two people willing to do it for you.
